Health & Justice Liaison (HJL) – Commercial role UK
Role Overview

The UK has comparatively high rates of heroin users compared to many other Western countries. Although drug misuse exists in most areas in the UK, it is more prevalent in areas characterised by social deprivation, which in turn is associated with poorer health. Recorded rates of drug-related deaths due to overdose in the UK continues to be amongst the highest in Europe whilst in-patient facilities and the annual spend on treatment has severely reduced.
Role & Responsibilities
You will be part of a field-based team to help drive sales and education within the opioid dependence treatment sector to ensure patients are able to access treatment as part of an offering of OST. The right treatment at the right time can be lifesaving. To be successful in this role you will need to be genuinely interested in this therapy area and possess a deep level of empathy, understanding and humility around the issues faced by those with opioid dependence.
As the HJL, you will be accountable for sales, education and training of key stakeholders across the criminal justice treatment pathway in a defined geographical area. Stakeholders may include psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, keyworkers and other workers providing drug treatment, as well as health and social care professionals. You will build excellent relationships with wider stakeholders, including specialist teams, commissioners, acute teams, local authorities, CDPs and PCCs. As an HJL you will work closely with your manager, the Criminal Justice Lead whilst maintaining a close working relationship with the Regional Leads (RL) upon whose geography you work. You will be responsible for implementing the Criminal Justice Business Plan relating to the defined geographical area which you work with an expectation to exceed sales objectives and achieve agreed KPIs. As a HJL, you will be/become an expert in terms of knowledge and practical application in all aspect of substance misuse. Internally this position reports to the Criminal Justice Lead. You will be collaborating cross functionally with all stakeholders, including Medical, Marketing and the Commercial Leadership T eam. Externally this position interacts with Health Care Professionals, Local Authorities, NHS service providers, voluntary service providers, Criminal Justice and other Health Care Organisations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Therapy Knowledge
A sound understanding of the drug treatment landscape.
Develop an understanding of the product models of care/implementation process across the
health and justice continuum and support steps required in each case.
Maintain and develop personal expertise and knowledge (including reading current
guidelines, white papers, NICE, DoH, Orange Guidelines, Drug Strategies, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971), networking opportunities and further training to develop professional competence.
Actively develop and demonstrate knowledge of therapy area, current treatments and future advances, to retain competitive advantage.
Be able to read and interpret data + understanding of product development and the clinical trial process.
Keep abreast of and operate within the law and local/national guidelines and take appropriate action.
Key Account Management
In partnership with the CJL, develop, implement, and review the CJ business plan to ensure it meets the needs of customers and Camurus.
Proactively share information and provide recommendations based on external customer insights to inform strategic decision making, local business planning and resource allocation to maximise business opportunities and create value for Camurus, customers and patients.
Assist in the development of key account plans and undertake regular review and adaptation of plans with CJL and RLs and other key internal stakeholders to reflect the changing environment.
The HJL is accountable for ensuring planned activities are executed to drive short- medium- and long-term sales growth in key accounts.
Proactively identify and develop advocates in key accounts to influence decisions and drive business, providing them with support and development in a manner consistent with the ABPI Code of Practice.
Product Implementation
Build influential relationships with key external stakeholders in opioid dependence (e.g. prison drug treatment teams, specialist nurses, key workers) to drive education and usage of product, ensuring Health Care Practitioners are trained and supported.
Accountable for education and training of key stakeholders in a defined geographical area.
Ensure that each service is provided with adequate marketing materials, the HJL should be an on-going resource for support, training, and customer queries.
Delivers impactful face to face or virtual, individual and group interactions with key influencers.
Ownership
Ensure all business planning tools are maintained and used effectively.
Work within the legal framework of compliant commercial practice (eg., ABPI code) and Camurus policies to ensure that any promotional activity is compliant.
Take ownership of your personal development, maximising opportunities for education.
Immerse yourself within the cross functional team to create the environment and advocacy that will enable peer to peer sharing of clinical experience.
Execute other duties as may be required.
Responsible for upholding the integrity of Camurus’ vision and aligning this to deliver outcomes/solutions for customers and ultimately patients.

Technical/functional area skills:
Preference to pass the ABPI code of practice examination within the required 2-year period of joining the industry.
Personal skills:
Bachelor or Master’s degree in life science, business or specialist qualification relevant to the therapy area and/or appropriate Nursing, Prison or Community service experience and qualification Strong track record in Criminal justice / Community substance misuse services and/or Pharma sales.
Ability to understand and operate in a technically complex therapeutic area.
Track record of executing high quality clinical educational meetings.
Will meet the requirements for CRB.
